If you are new to the club, introduce yourself here. Where do you live in The Villages? Where did you live before The Villages? What convertible do you own? What are your hobbies? Etc. etc. etc.

Hi all, Jan and I moved from central IL to Fernandina about 1 1/2 years ago, when we retired, and we just love it! In our past life, Jan was a Social Worker, and I worked in a manufacturing/chemical co. as an engineer, and later, as a safety mgr. Jan has lusted after a VW bug ever since her college days, and I was delighted to surprise her with a white turbo diesel convertible, right off the showroom floor! Yep... I earned lots of points with that move! Jan does 'tangle' artwork, and is getting into other mediums. Her second hobby appears to be collecting punches on her Ollie's Frozen Custard Club Card! She also enjoys baking and cooking when time allows. I enjoy Pickleball, shooting, antiques, thrift stores, fishing, and apparently, loading the dishwasher. I've been involved with Habitat for Humanity for many years, but in the last few months, we've been building over in Lady Lake, where I am trying to determine the maximin number of muscles in the male body that can be made sore. Jan and I seem to be on the go all the time, and the Club is one of our favorites! Kudos to Bev and any of the folks that helped design the website...very impressive, and great job! Thanks, Steve.

If you are new to the club, introduce yourself here. Where do you live in The Villages? Where did you live before The Villages? What convertible do you own? What are your hobbies? Etc. etc. etc. Hi fellow top down enthusiasts, My name is Eric "Bear" Puryear, and my friends and grandchildren call me "Bear". I just joined the club, and attended the last two meetings. My co-pilot is my beautiful wife, Sandy. BTW, I won the 50/50 at both of the last two meetings; so the Villages Convertible Club has become profitable. Regardless, I look forward to our upcoming events. I am retired Navy and from 1967-1990 I was a fighter pilot. Other than a few scary moments, most of the time was like being in a fraternity; but we had some fun "toys". Bear became my "tactical call sign" and I continued using it as a nickname. It is also my "grandfather" (2 boys, 2 girls) title. While in the Navy, I started out in F-4 Phantoms and graduated to the F-14 Tomcat and completed the Navy Weapons Fighter School (or Top Gun). You may have seen the Hollywood version; and my Squadron (VF111) and my sister squadron (VF51) did all of the flight scenes. We did most of the maneuvers high and slow, but the movie magic made us look very low and fast. The office, in the movie, where Tom Cruise was “chewed out” for the low pass; was my office. The movie did wonders for the Navy, more than half a million enrolled. Folks at work often asked me to talk to their sons and daughters about Navy life. Back then, it was mostly men. I would ask them if they liked girls. If they said "of course", then I said, “join the Air Force”. My point was that separation very long and getting longer. Unfortunately the "Tail hook" debacle undid all of the good, and showed what was to come... I have no regrets from my Navy time, except that I missed so much of my kids growing up. I think that this is why God created grandchildren. When I grew up and became a civilian, I worked for a "Beltway Bandit; still supporting the Navy. After about 10 years of working on UAVs, I decided to retire. Although retired, I still wanted to try to keep my brain engaged. I became an adjunct professor at the American Public University System teaching Political Science. The majority of my students are active duty military and I feel that we have a lot in common. I had a student say that he may be a day late with his homework, because he will be on an active mission. What could I say? I really enjoy the class, and since it is online; I can teach it from anywhere. However, imagine teaching Political Science in today’s world; and not being able to show any political preference. I still have my house in Central VA where I spend the summers. This makes me one of the dreaded "snowbirds" I make this trek to be close to my children and grandchildren. Unfortunately, they are picking up so many activities, that I probably see them more here in Florida (they like Disney World). We live in Amelia on Inner Circle. We like to say that not everyone can live on the "Inner Circle", but it is truly a very active community. My car is a 2001 BMW 330 CI Convertible. I call it my Space Odyssey. I recently took it to a BMW dealership for a "service" and even with over 100,000 miles; they insisted that, as a BMW, it was still a baby. Although more than a few miles on it; BMW made an incredible paint, and the car basically still looks new. My hobbies include “convertibling”, coin and stamp collecting, golf, and soaking in a pool. I look forward to participating in the trips and events of the club. The club has a lot to offer, which I am sure is the reason the enrollment is "sky-rocketing".

I couldn't begin to match the exciting life that Bear described so I'd better not try. My wife - Bev - and I bought a home in Briar Meadow South in 2013 and came here pretty much full time in January. Originally from Pennsylvania via Maine, and New York before becoming official residents of Florida. Bev taught first grade before early retirement in 1987 and I was a manager for several plastics companies before starting my own computer consulting business in 2002; I'm working at completely retiring from that.
I've pretty much been a "car guy" since I was 16 and I've owned 5 convertibles over the years, currently a BMW Z4 which we both love. We're looking forward to meeting new friends and experiencing new adventures.

Hi all, My name is Nancy Verhelst, and we just joined this amazing club, and are the proud owners of a red, 2014 VW Beetle convertible, that I named Ms. Scarlett!! I had wanted another one of these cars, since I sold my 1972 Super Beetle convertible, in 1980. I have owned many convertibles, but none came close to that one. We moved to the Villages from Boynton Beach, FL ( West Palm Beach), almost 2 years ago, and LOVE it! I am a retired RN, who worked in the operating room for 40 years. Boy the things I have seen!!! My newest passion since coming here, is glass fusion. My inner artist has emerged, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I have taken up golf too. Still working on that! Jef still works. He is an engineer, and we have an Industrial Painting company, specializing in wastewater, and drinking water plants. He too has tales to tell! Jef is a "transplant" from Belgium, and proudly became a US citizen in 2001. We moved to the US from Belgium, and have lived in FL since 1980.. We look forward to making many new friends, and enjoying a lot of great trips. Thanks for having us!

Me and my wife just moved to The Villages three months ago from Olympia Washington. We purchased a home here 5 years ago but just moved here full time. We have joined the car club because we enjoy getting out and meeting new people and seeing new things. We were members of the ZCCW that's The Z Car Club of Washington, and are currently with the Sun Coast Z Car Club of Florida as well as The Convertible Car Club. I enjoy showing our car at shows and I'm preparing the car for a national Z car show in Memphis Tennessee in July 2015, we look forward to seeing and meeting you. Our car is a 2004 350Z Roadster in chrome silver, we bought the car new in August of 2003 and has been modified using NISMO (Nissan motor sports) parts. It has been ported polished with cold air induction and is currently putting out 365 hp at the rear wheels.

If you are new to the club, introduce yourself here. Where do you live in The Villages? Where did you live before The Villages? What convertible do you own? What are your hobbies? Etc. etc. etc. Hi to all: My name is John (Rusty) Gates. Live in the Fernandina Village for 2 1/2 years with my wife, Charlotte Gates. Just purchased a 2015 Volkswagen TDI 2.0 Yellow convertible from Ocala VW. Nicknamed for our conv. is "YELLOW BIRD"! Many of our neighbors and church friends are members, and we look forward to enjoying the field trips that the members enjoy. We moved here from Keowee Key, South Carolina, (in the Smoky's, 12 miles north of Clemson University). Charlotte was originally from West Virginia; I was born in Pennsylvania. I'm retired from Sara Lee Corporation (nobody doesn't like Sara Lee), and Charlotte retired from The Robert Wood Foundation, Princeton, NJ. Wish we could have made this transition many years ago; very happy with our life style here. We look forward to meeting the membership on some of the trips we will be taking.

Mary and I met January of 2013 at Three for the Road's very first gig at Spanish Springs and have been running together ever since! We moved into our new home in Fernandina in November of 2013. Mary is originally from Elmira NY and was in education for 40+ years, the last several of which she spent as an elementary school principal in Brevard County prior to retirement in 2011. I am originally from Cleveland OH and still operate a small Cleveland-based packaging business which I started in 1985. I am a US Army veteran having served from 1959-1963, 39 months of which were spent in West Germany. I tell everyone that having had the privilege to serve was a million dollars worth of experience which I wouldn't do again for a million dollars!
Mary and I purchased our 2015 BMW 228i convertible April 2015 and took delivery at BMW's performance center in Spartanburg SC in late June. It was an amazing experience for both of us, and we are so glad to have done it. Anyone considering purchase of a new Beemer, please be sure to ask your dealer about the PC option, it only costs airfare (Allegiant flies there from Sanford twice a week) because BMW will pay for your room and meals (and even a glass or two of adult beverages) while you are there, and treat you like a king and queen!

Hi,
To delete a post click on the arrow to the far right on the post (the icon looks like a gear), choose "Moderate" from the drop down menu, from the next list of choices that pops up click on "Delete Post". It's a bit strange but new posts are called "Threads" When you click on a category, you will see a button at the top right that says, "Create Thread"
Give me a call if this still doesn't make sense :-) Bev at 352-789-4357

If you are new to the club, introduce yourself here. Where do you live in The Villages? Where did you live before The Villages? What convertible do you own? What are your hobbies? Etc. etc. etc. Hi to all fellow members; My name is Milt Casablanca and I live in the Village of St Charles. I have been a snowbird until this year. Prior to the Villages, I lived on Long Island in Center Moriches,NY. where I spent alot of my time boating. I use the name Sundanceli because I use to own a Sea Ray Sundancer and I lived on Long Island. Two of my close friends are members of this club and they say its fantastic. Ive never had a convertible but always wanted one. Thus, I recently purchased a 2016 Ford Mustang convertible and I love it. Now, my copilot, Dorothy and I want to enjoy all the fabulous experiences you all have had. We were told that you are working on a trip to Savannah which would be wonderful. If it happens, we definitely want to go. During my work life I didnt do anything as extrodinary as Bear with Top Gun. I was a claims adjuster, then a Suit Supervisor who settled Bodily Injury cases in Court. Since you dont make great money doing that, I got my Insurance Agents license and sold insurance for the last 35 years of my career. Now happily retired I play alot of softball, golf occasionally, and also belong to the Beachcombers Club, The Italian Piazzano's Club, and Rhythm of the Night clubs. I look forward to meeting all of you.
